Vivian Sophia Curd is a 3rd generation Mother of the Year following in the footsteps of her Grandmother (Vivian Vellis -Mother of the Year in 1993) and her mother, Efrosine Vellis - Mother of the Year in 2007).
Vivian was born November 12, 1959 in San Francisco, the second of 3 children to Andrew and Efrosine Vellis, granddaughter of Costas and Vivian Vellis who were early members of Annunciation.
She was raised in South San Francisco with brothers Gus (married to Meena) and Aris (recently engaged to Kathy).
Vivian graduated from El Camino High School in South San Francisco in 1977.
In 1981 Vivian graduated from USF’s School of Nursing with a Bachelor of
Science degree. She joined the Trauma ICU at San Francisco General and
worked in the unit for 26 years, 5 of those years as the Head Nurse. She
eventually transitioned to Performance Improvement Coordinator for the
Trauma Program and recently retired from SFGH in June of 2017 after 34 years
of service.
In 1981 as a nursing student, Vivian met John Curd a young firefighter /paramedic. They were married in1984 at the Annunciation Cathedral and settled in San Bruno, where they raised their two children, Katherine Curd (a Firefighter/Paramedic at Station 52 in San Bruno) and Andrew Curd (Graduated from UC Merced 2017; currently working for a Bio-Tech company in their research lab).
Vivian has been an active participant in many of Annunciation’s ministries;
Sunday School (attended K through HS, taught 5th grade)
Pinecrest and Yosemite Summer Camps (camper, counselor)
GOYA ( youth member, advisor)
Church Bazaar / Food Festival (clearing tables, washing dishes, Sunday
School booth, food line, pastry booth)
Philoptochos (recording secretary, Chair Angel Tree, board member)
Now that both Vivian and John are retired, they enjoy going on long walks (sometimes with their dog, Shasta ); taking weekend trips; and spending time with family and friends.
