Saints, Feasts, and Readings for 11/02/2019
Saints and Feasts: Bishop Raphael Hawaweeny of Brooklyn; The Holy Martyrs Acindynus, Pegasius, Aphthonius, Elpidephorus, and Anempodistus; Domnina, Domna, & Kyriaki, the Martyrs
Epistle Reading: St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 1:8-11
Brethren, we do not want you to be ignorant of the affliction we experienced in Asia; for we were so utterly, unbearably crushed that we despaired of life itself. Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead; he delivered us from so deadly a peril, and he will deliver us; on him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us in answer to many prayers.
Gospel Reading: Luke 9:1-6
At that time, Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
