Vivian Curd, Kalliope Fousekis 2018 Mothers of the Year!

Saturday, May 13 was, by every count, a spectacular day. It was the Cathedral’s Mother’s Day Luncheon and Fashion Show, sponsored by the Ladies Philoptotchos, chaired by Irene Kyriacou.

The Korinthias Hall was transformed into Italy, with the theme, “when in Rome…” Following a lavish reception, some 300 guests dined on chicken parmigiana, to the music of Ron Borrelli, as Vivian Curd and Kalliope Fousekis were acclaimed 2018 Mothers of the Year (their bios, as submitted, follow).

The group then was entertained by ten-year-old Vlasis Kyriacou, who brought the house down with “That’s Amore.” This was followed by an amazing array of fashions, worn by women and children from our community. (Fashions and jewelry by Lexe Boutique, Alexis Bittar, B Chic Fashions, and the Kids Company.) Nick Balian served as Master of Ceremonies, and a raffle extravaganza ended the afternoon. Among the distinguished guests were Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, Past Metropolis Philoptochos President Valerie Roumeliotis, National Philoptochos Board Member Helen Carnegis, Past Philoptohcos Presidents Cleo Mattis, Connie Panagotacos & Angie Levnetis (Pat Aleck was at home recuperating; we wish her a speedy recovery), Great Benefactors to the Rebuilding of the Cathedral Ethel Davies, Tula Mouroufas, and Connie Panagotacos, the Honorable Bessie Dreibelbis, and Daphne Vitsikounaki, of the Consulate General of Greece. Jan Petrou, Philoptochos President, and her hard-working Board are to be commended for their ongoing hard work, as we build up and nurture community, in the service of others.
